daily 5 {chapter 4 freebies}

Hello, Sweet Friends! How are you enjoying The Daily 5?
After reading chapter 4, I am ready to launch the Read to Self portion of Daily 5 in my classroom this fall!
I am going to use these posters to teach my students the three ways to read a book.
(Click the images below to download!)

I have also made this little magnifying glass to give my students, so they can take it home and review the three ways to read a book with their families. BTW: This magnifying glass also works as a great bookmark!

I should have mentioned this last post, but these are my book boxes. You can read more about them here.

I love reading all of your ideas and reflections about The Daily 5! Go ahead and link-up below!

daily 5 {chapter 3 freebies}

For chapter 3, I made a sign that I will be putting above my classroom library. I love I PICK and I am excited to introduce it to my future students. Click the image below to snag your own sign! {BTW: I added it to the other D5 printables, so if you have already downloaded them, just download them all again.}

This chapter also gave me the final push I needed to buy some chimes for my classroom, so I can get my student's attention in a calm manner. I found these Woodstock Zenergy Chimes for about $25.00 on Amazon. Click {here} or on the picture below to check them out.
I have also added a new poster for anyone who is using their computer station as a listening center {like ME!} I don't want to invest in a listening center this year and I have three student computers in my classroom, so I am going to use those instead. I am thinking about using TumbleBooks... Any thoughts?

I know I say this on every D5 post, but it's still not too late to follow along with our book study!

daily 5 {chapter 2}

My favorite part about chapter 2 was this:

When you think about it, it really makes sense! When students understand the purpose of doing something and have a choice on which task they complete, they are naturally more motivated to stay busy and learn.
I love the idea of teaching students the urgency and why they need to complete each Daily 5 task.  I am having so many "ah ha" moments while reading this book, that it will be interesting to see it actually working in my classroom next year. I am so excited {but, not excited enough to want summer to end}!

I also liked the questions students should ask themselves before choosing a Daily 5 task. I made a printable to go along with them and I will display this poster on my Daily 5 bulletin board {along with the 5 choices}.

Click the picture below to download. Please Note: I added this poster to the end of the last Daily 5 download {so you will need to download it again}. It will be easier to keep all the downloads all in one place, so each week I will be adding to this file. Enjoy!

BTW: It's still not too late to follow along and read The Daily 5 and CAFE with us!

daily 5 {chapter 1 - posters}

Hello, Teacher Friends! I hope you are enjoying The Daily 5 book! I know I am! :)
If you want to get your own copy and join in on the fun, click {here}!

This book has seriously lifted a HUGE weight off my shoulders. Last year {my second year of teaching} I did guided reading/my own twist on group reading with my students every day. From my students' perspective, it was successful, because they became strong readers. From my perspective, it was a FLOP. I came to hate reading time preparing everything {which I absolutely loved my first year} and I had a MAJOR HEADACHE at 10:15, every morning, when group reading time was finished. {Headaches don't make the nicest teachers!} To pull of my reading groups, I had to spend HOURS of my planning time {to keep everyone busy and actively engaged}. Basically, I was working HARDER not smarter.  And that my friends, is why I am so in love with The Daily 5. With The Daily 5 book, I will enjoy reading time again, because this book will help me work SMARTER not harder. I love the idea that students are monitoring their own progress, while I get to do important teacher stuff! ;) I also love the 5 different areas that they focus on and I made some of my own classroom posters to go along!
